Victory!

Missouri Voters Pass Proposition B to Ensure Choice to Live at Home for Seniors, Disabled Seniors
People with disabilities, attendants, and home care advocates celebrated the passage of Proposition B, the Quality Home Care Act, as a major victory in the effort to ensure quality home care services for Missouri’s growing senior population and its citizens with disabilities.

The measure passed overwhelmingly, with support from 75 percent of voters.

“I’m thrilled. This is fantastic news for Missourians who need long term care
and for caregivers like me,” said St. Louis home care attendant Tasha McGhee (pictured on right). “The next step is to work together to improve our jobs and the services we provide.”

Tasha worked on the Prop B campaign from the beginning. She helped collect signatures so we could be on the ballot in the spring. This fall, she knocked on doors, made phone calls, leafleted in her neighborhood, and drove people to the polls on election day.

Home Care Attendants Win Big on Prop B with SEIU

Together with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Missouri home care attendants helped pass
Proposition B to create a Quality Home Care Council for better wages and benefits and a strong voice in
Jefferson City to make the improvements we need in home care. Behind every stage of the campaign were
dedicated attendants, working hard to educate Missouri voters.

How'd we win Prop B? Working Together with SEIU

Home care attendants across Missouri worked with SEIU to pass Prop B on November 4. Here's how we did it:

-Gathered more than 200,000 signatures to earn a spot on the November ballot.
-Canvassed neighborhoods in cities and towns across Missouri from Springfield to Columbia, from Kansas City to St Louis
- telling workers that we need a voice for quality care.
- Held town hall meetings with our allies to raise awareness.
-talked with politicians about the importance of Prop B.
-Won the endorsement of the state's top two newspapers, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch
and the Kansas City Star.
-Made ourselves visible at the polls, telling voters to vote Yes on B on Election Day.

 America's Home Care Union: SEIU

More than 420,000 home care attendants in the United States and Canada have joined together in SEIU to win better wages and benefits. By working with consumers and allies, they've won increased funding for home and community-based services, including more hours for consumers and raises and benefits for workers. SEIU attendants in other states have made gains. Now it's our turn in Missouri.
