SEIU MO STATE COUNCIL ANNOUNCES ENDORSEMENT OF JAY NIXON FOR GOVERNOR AND OTHER KEY STATEWIDE OFFICES

State Council President Sherwin Carroll Says: ‘Jay Nixon will get Missouri moving in the right direction for working families’

Saint Louis, MO — Referring to the list of endorsed candidates as “a team of proven leaders that will stand up and fight for working family issues,” SEIU Missouri / Kansas State Council President Sherwin Carroll announced the union’s endorsement in several races today.

Jay Nixon for Governor heads the list of candidates endorsed by SEIU today.

“Jay Nixon has been a great friend to labor,” said Carroll. “As Governor, I am certain that he will continue to stand up to special interests on behalf of working Missourians.”

“Missouri families deserve a Governor that will work to improve access to health care, and end the assault on the middle class,” added Carroll, “Jay Nixon will get Missouri moving in the right direction”

In accepting the endorsement, Attorney General Jay Nixon said, “During these tough economic times, working families across our state are having trouble making ends meet.  Our health care system is broken, Missourians are worried about losing their jobs, and middle-class families are getting squeezed out of a college education.  More of the same failed policies won’t cut it.  In order to start moving our state forward again, we must start putting the needs of regular Missourians first.  I’m proud that so many of Missouri’s working families are joining my campaign for Governor.”

The Council also announced today the statewide endorsement of Sam Page for Lieutenant Governor; Margaret Donnelly for Attorney General; and Clint Zweifel for Treasurer.  In addition, incumbent legislators with 100% labor voting records were endorsed.

All endorsements were unanimous – the SEIU MO / KS State Council is the political arm of SEIU in both states.  The council represents more than 15,000 working families and is widely recognized as having one of the most effective political grassroots organizations in both states.
